Choose the right activity for your day
For a first visit, our starting choices are the house reef with ORCA, a beach afternoon and dinner at Somabay Marina. Add a kite lesson if you want to learn a sport, the Golf Academy for a shorter introduction, or Soma Splash for a family water-park day. These are our editorial picks based on the experiences described by the operators.
| If you want… | Our starting choice | Why choose it |
|---|---|---|
| A first look at the reef | ORCA at The Breakers | A house-reef experience without choosing a full-day boat trip. |
| A new skill | 7BFT kite course or DPC wingfoil lessons | Structured tuition; leave room for wind-dependent scheduling. |
| A short booked activity | Golf Academy lesson | A published 45-minute lesson with equipment available. |
| A family water-park day | Soma Splash | Slides and water play; choose around the children’s age and height. |
| A relaxed afternoon | S.Cape or The Cascades Spa | Choose beach time or a treatment, depending on your preferred pace. |
| An easy evening | Promenade and Somabay Marina | A walk, shops and a meal without booking a whole excursion. |
Snorkel or dive the Ras Abu Soma house reef
Our first choice for seeing the Red Sea below the surface. The 420-metre jetty beside The Breakers reaches the reef, so this is a different outing from swimming off a sandy beach. ORCA lists snorkelling, house-reef diving, beginner courses and freediving from its base here.
Choose a guided snorkel if you want help with equipment and the reef. Choose a dive course if learning to scuba is the point of the trip; a first lesson and a certified diver’s outing are different bookings.
- Where ORCA Dive Club at The Breakers, on the peninsula’s reef side.
- Plan Reserve a morning or afternoon around the session offered. This is our planning allowance, not an operator timetable.
- Book ORCA publishes date-based prices through its booking page. Call +20 122 529 8115 for visitor access and snorkelling arrangements.
Learn to kitesurf or wingfoil
Choose this if you want to come home with a new skill. 7BFT has structured kite courses, while Duotone Pro Center at Wyte Beach also offers wingfoil tuition. Give lessons more than one weather-dependent slot in your holiday.
For a first kite course, 7BFT publishes a clear two-day option. At DPC, kite lessons use a separate beach reached by boat; its launch directly in front of the centre is for experts. Beginner wingfoil practice takes place beside the beachfront.
- 7BFT beginner course Published at €340 per person for 6–8 hours over two days, in a group of 2–4.
- Shorter option 7BFT lists a one-to-one kite lesson at €98 for one hour including equipment. Under-16s use private or semi-private tuition.
- Book The linked operator pages give course details. Prices checked 29 October 2026; confirm the rate and available dates when booking.
Take a boat trip or visit Tobia Island
Make this your main activity when you want time out on the water. ORCA lists full-day, half-day and speedboat trips. For a shorter island outing, 7BFT publishes a boat connection to Tobia Island from the KiteHouse.
Pick the trip by what you want to do: snorkelling stops, diving or time on the island. A hotel watersports desk is another starting point: Sheraton lists snorkelling trips, glass-bottom boats and private boats.
- Tobia Island 7BFT publishes €9 per non-kiter, subject to availability. Its page lists outward and return sailings in “Breakers Time”; use the reception’s confirmed meeting time.
- Departure The 7BFT service starts at the KiteHouse. Other trips may start at the marina or your hotel’s watersports centre.
- Bring Sun protection, water, a towel and your booking details; establish what the package already includes.
Spend an afternoon at S.Cape Beach
Choose S.Cape for a beach day with food and drinks in the same place. Somabay describes it as a sandy beach with family activities and a main beach hub for residents. It makes a more relaxed plan than fitting a water excursion and a lesson into the same day.
If you are staying in a hotel, compare this with the beach already included in your stay. For a change of setting, look at Wyte Beach and its watersports centre too.
- Published hours S.Cape’s destination listing says 10 am to sunset, checked 29 October 2026.
- Visitor access Arrange the day-use terms for your guest category before travelling. A current public entry price was not established.
- Good pairing Beach afternoon, then a marina meal.
Walk the promenade and eat at the marina

This is our simplest evening recommendation: leave time for a seafront walk, then choose somewhere to eat. At Somabay Marina, Thomas Pizza offers pizza and pasta; Sobar is an option for drinks. You can browse the shops without turning the evening into a full excursion.
For exploring on wheels, Somabay lists Hopper rentals. Choose the promenade and marina for an easy outing after a travel day; keep sports lessons and boat check-in for another day.
- Thomas Pizza Somabay lists its marina location, noon–midnight hours and +20 122 459 0272. Checked 29 October 2026.
- Plan Allow an unhurried evening. Our suggestion is a walk before dinner, rather than several separate reservations.
- Getting back Staying outside the peninsula? Arrange the return journey with your driver or accommodation.
Try a golf lesson or play a round
You do not need to commit to a full round to try golf here. Our pick for a newcomer is a lesson at Somabay Golf Academy. The academy describes a driving range, putting and short-game practice, plus a Par 3 course. Experienced golfers can plan a separate round on the championship course.
A 45-minute lesson gives you a defined activity to build into a beach holiday. It is also a practical choice for two people who want to try something together.
- Published lesson €50 for one person, or €80 for two sharing a 45-minute lesson.
- Included Range balls during the lesson and golf equipment if required, according to the academy’s rate page checked 29 October 2026.
- Book Pro shop +20 122 350 3528. The rate page says no-shows and cancellations within 24 hours are charged in full.
Book a treatment at The Cascades Spa & Thalasso
Choose the spa when you want a quieter day or a break between active outings. The Cascades has a seawater hydrotherapy pool and publishes a range of massages, facials, scrubs and wraps. A named treatment is a clearer booking than a general request to “use the spa”.
For a couple, decide whether you want a treatment each or time using the facilities. Ask which facilities are included with the treatment you choose.
- Where The Cascades, on the Somabay peninsula.
- Published hours Somabay Golf’s activity directory lists 10 am–6 pm for the spa, checked 29 October 2026.
- Price Choose your treatment and get its current price from the spa; we have not established a universal day-pass price.
Ride with Jasmine Stable
For a different view of the coast, consider a guided horse ride. Somabay lists beach and desert rides with Jasmine Stable near the main gate. Our preference is to choose the route and pace around the least experienced rider in your group.
A late-afternoon ride is a good idea if the stable has a suitable slot. Give them your experience level and any children’s ages so they can propose the ride, equipment and meeting point.
- Where Near Somabay’s main gate; use the meeting point supplied with your booking.
- Contact +20 106 249 5099 or +20 127 306 4113, published by Somabay.
- Hours note Official sources disagree on a 7 am or 8 am start; both list a 7 pm finish. Book a specific session rather than relying on the opening time.
Take the children to Soma Splash
Choose Soma Splash if slides and splashing are the main request. Sheraton describes a water park with a rain fortress, tipping bucket and a boomerang slide. It is an alternative to another hotel-pool day, rather than a reason to spend the whole day travelling to a distant attraction.
Build the outing around the children’s ages and the attractions they can actually use. Finish with a meal or a quiet afternoon rather than adding another timed activity.
- Published hours 9 am–5 pm in Somabay’s Playpark listing, checked 29 October 2026.
- Contact +20 65 356 2584. Sheraton places the park near its resort.
- Before paying Get the applicable age/height rules, adult-supervision requirement and admission terms. A current public entry tariff was not established.
Go karting at Soma Raceway
This is a useful change from the beach for a group that wants a competitive activity. Somabay Golf describes a 700-metre karting track at the marina entrance. We would pair it with dinner at the marina rather than make it a separate journey on another day.
Book for the drivers who will actually take part. The age and height requirements, available kart types and race-session price need to come from the track.
- Where Somabay Marina entrance.
- Published hours Noon–midnight, checked against Somabay’s Playpark listing on 29 October 2026.
- Contact +20 102 104 6046.
Play padel, tennis or footgolf
Choose a court session if you want an active break without making a whole-day excursion. Somabay’s sports offering includes padel and tennis. Footgolf is another group option: you kick a football towards the hole instead of using a club.
For a mixed group, footgolf can be a more natural starting point than a full golf round. For regular players, book your court and find out whether rackets, balls or a playing partner are included.
- Options Padel, tennis and footgolf; choose a specific activity before booking.
- Contact The destination’s sports directory gives +20 122 350 3528 for these activities.
- Plan Allow time for the session you book plus changing and travel. Equipment and session prices were not verified.
Leave a full day for an excursion
A longer holiday gives you room for a day away from the resort. Sheraton lists a Luxor excursion through its named tour provider. Choose that for ancient Egyptian sites; keep it separate from your beach, golf or spa plans because it is a substantial travel day.
For another reef setting, Sharm El Naga is a separate coastal outing to research. It is outside the Somabay peninsula. Compare the journey and package with using the house reef close to your accommodation.
- Luxor Ask for the actual itinerary, pickup and return times, included entry tickets and guide language. We have not verified a current all-inclusive trip price.
- Sharm El Naga Choose a beach/house-reef outing with its own admission and transfer arrangement.
- Our recommendation Keep arrival and departure days light; use a full free day for an excursion.
PUT IT TOGETHER
Three easy ways to put a day together
These are editorial suggestions, not sold packages or promised schedules. Start with one confirmed main activity and build the rest of the day around it.
- First visit A morning reef session with ORCA, lunch and a rest at your accommodation, then a promenade walk and marina dinner.
- With children Soma Splash during its published daytime opening, a quiet afternoon, then a meal everyone likes. Add karting only if the drivers meet the track’s requirements.
- A quieter day A booked Golf Academy lesson or spa treatment, followed by beach time. Choose one morning booking so the day still feels relaxed.
Access and getting around
Most of these activities are on the Somabay peninsula. Ras Soma, the mainland-shore hotels and Sharm El Naga are separate places. Use the venue’s meeting point when arranging transport.
When booking from outside the peninsula, give the operator your accommodation and guest details so they can explain entry and transfers. Book the return journey too. For activities inside your hotel, start with its own desk.
Prices and opening times here are attributed published information checked on the dates shown. Prices are kept in the operator’s currency. Travel, equipment and admission are included only where stated. Our suggested day plans are editorial advice, not firsthand reviews or sold packages.

Common questions
What are the best things to do in Soma Bay for a first visit?
Our starting choices are the Ras Abu Soma house reef, a beach afternoon and an evening at Somabay Marina. Add a kite or wingfoil course if learning a sport is a priority, or a Golf Academy lesson for a shorter introduction.
What can you do in Soma Bay with children?
Soma Splash, a beach afternoon and marina dining are useful starting points. Footgolf and Soma Raceway add options for suitable ages. Check the specific activity’s age, height and supervision rules rather than assuming every attraction suits every child.
Can you visit Somabay activities without staying in a hotel there?
Arrange entry with the activity operator or venue for your booking. Tell them where you are staying and who is coming. Access arrangements differ between the Somabay peninsula, Ras Soma and the mainland-shore hotels; a reservation at one does not automatically cover the others.
How much do Soma Bay activities cost?
Published examples checked on 29 October 2026 include a 45-minute Golf Academy lesson at €50 for one person or €80 for two sharing, and 7BFT’s two-day beginner kite course at €340 per person in a group of 2–4. These are operator-published examples, not a quoted holiday budget. Transfers and other activities have their own terms.
What is there to do in Somabay at night?
Start with dinner or drinks at the marina. Thomas Pizza and Soma Raceway both have published hours extending to midnight. For parties and special events, use the dated events calendar rather than assuming there is an event every night.
